Job Summary: RSC is seeking a Principal Resource Geologist to operate as a resource estimation practitioner, build into the resource team and help promote the company to new and existing clients to generate work.

The Role

We are expanding our team and looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and talented Principal Resource Geologist to assist the team in delivering timely reporting and advice to our clients, build into the resource team and help promote the company to new and existing clients to generate work. The opportunity to add value to new and existing projects is immense, including client relationship development and mentoring younger geologists.

Depending on the best candidate’s skill set and motivations, RSC envisages the role broadening to oversee resource development projects worldwide, from grassroots exploration in the PNG jungle through to mine development in the Australian outback. Flexibility with hours and work locations is important and some travel will be expected.

Key duties will include:

  • Client and prospect communications;
  • Oversee validation of drill hole and other geological data upon receipt from client;
  • Review of quality assurance procedures and quality control data provided by the client;
  • 3D Modelling of geological features to support Mineral Resource estimation;
  • Statistical and geostatistical analysis of data;
  • Grade interpolation using appropriate techniques;
  • Reporting of Mineral Resource estimation results in accordance with the JORC Code (or other international codes as required);
  • Site visits (domestic and international) and laboratory inspections as required;
  • Willingness to act as Competent Person where appropriate;
  • Willingness to assist with mining geology assignments (gap analysis, reconciliation studies etc.) as required;
  • Undertake business development

The Person

The person who takes this role needs to be smart, someone who doesn’t accept ‘business as usual’ but who pushes themselves to comprehensively understand their science and craft, and is keen to be a part of a team that is pushing the standards of resource reporting to a higher level. Your ability to develop and manage client relationships and networks within the resource sector is vital, including being able to work with your own personal network of contacts to develop mutual value with RSC.

Experience and solid understanding in structural geology, geochemistry, geophysics and geostatistics would be advantageous. A continuous exposure to professional development over the applicant’s career is a prerequisite.

To be selected for the role you must have:

  • beyond-excellent reporting skills;
  • great communication style;
  • extensive resource experience at a senior level;
  • strong technical knowledge of resource estimation processes, including advanced techniques;
  • multi-commodity experience including CP status for at least two commodities;
  • thorough knowledge of JORC and NI43-101 reporting requirements;
  • a track-record of delivering outcomes; and
  • a drive to impress stakeholders and meet deadlines.

The candidate must be eligible to work in Australia or New Zealand. RSC would prefer to the position to be based at one of its New Zealand offices, but equally, the right person can work from the West Perth office.
