| ABSTRACT: | Exploration and development at the Paddy’s Flat mine has discovered a series of stacked, flatly dipping thrust structures within the overall steeply dipping Vivian - Consol’s mineralised zone in the north of the mine. A naming convention relating to Rolls Royce Jet Engines in alphabetical order has been adopted with the first of these thrust structures discovered dubbed the Avon Thrust. The thrust structures are strongly mineralised and typified by a main laminated quartz vein with sub-parallel veining in altered rock above and below. This makes them excellent small scale-mining opportunities which have the ability to substantially increase the overall grade profile of Paddy’s Flat ore production. Westgold has now developed into the Avon Thrust and has commenced air-leg development and production from this structure. The Clyde Thrust has been intersected by development with in-cycle development samples showing similar bonanza results, whilst mine development is now within 10 metres of intersecting the projected position of the Conway Thrust. Westgold’s Managing Director, Peter Cook said “These are exciting results and typify the Paddy’s Flat field where small bonanza grade veins aggregate to create substantial production. However, as significant as these results are, they remain peripheral to the main game at Paddy’s Flat which is the depth continuity of the historic Fenian – Consol’s – Marmont mine, the largest historic producer in the Paddy’s Flat field (production of 1.3 Mt at 16.5 g/t for 684 koz to just over 400 m vertical depth). We are now just 150 m above the base of historic mining and we remain hugely excited by the impact that the integration of this lode system into the Westgold-developed greater Paddy’s Flat mine will have on our overall output.” | |
