ABSTRACT: | The Moosehead Project is located on NTS Map Sheets 02E/03, 02D/13 and 02D/14 in north central Newfoundland in the Electoral District of Exploits. The claims straddle the Trans Canada Highway 22 kilometers east of the town of Grand Falls Windsor, a regional business hub with a population of 14,171 (2016 census). The town of Gander, with an international airport, lies 72 kilometers east of the property, and the port of Botwood lies 20 kilometers to the north. The property consists of 98 mineral exploration claims held under License 024014M which is 100% owned by Altius Resources Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Altius Minerals Corp. The claims are the subject of a proposed joint venture agreement between Sokoman Iron Corp. and Altius Resources Inc., subject to certain conditions and TSX Venture Exchange approval. The Island of Newfoundland presents a cross-section through the northern part of the Appalachian Orogen and comprises four tectonostratigraphic zones (the Humber, Dunnage, Gander and Avalon Zones) that record the opening, closing, and destruction of the Iapetus Ocean in the early- to mid-Paleozoic. The Dunnage Zone is further divided into the Notre Dame and Exploits subzones, which are believed to have formed on opposite sides of the Iapetus Ocean. The Moosehead Property is located within the Exploits Subzone of the Dunnage tectonostratigraphic zone and is directly underlain by Silurian to Devonian age rocks of the Botwood Group, which can be divided into the older, mainly volcanic rocks of the Lawrenceton Formation and younger, mainly sedimentary rocks of the Wigwam Formation. The entire project area is covered by glacial till that is typically 3 to 5 metres thick, but locally greater than 10 metres thick | |
