ABSTRACT:The Liberty One Lithium Corporation’s lithium exploration project, named the Paradox North Property, is located in Grand County, in southeastern Utah, USA, west of the City of Moab. The current mining claim holdings, acquired from Sustainable Capital Corp. on October 9, 2016, include a total of 223 placer claims covering a total of 4,460 acres (1,805 hectares) in one contiguous group held 100% by Liberty One Lithium. The Paradox North project initially attracted attention because of high lithium values reported in the literature in brines recovered from oil and gas exploration wells. The area has seen a long history of oil and gas exploration. Many of the wells drilled for oil and gas and for potash penetrated the brine-rich Paleozoic sediments that make up the current project’s target. The brines were found to be super saturated (40% minerals, 60% water) in many salts, including lithium, magnesium, boron and potash. The brines range from 81 to 1,700 ppm Lithium. Only a few of the wells’ brines were tested for lithium, so the picture is still incomplete. The brines occur in Paleozoic sedimentary beds that vary in depth between 2000 and 7000 feet (610 and 2134 meters) below surface. The unit of most interest is the Hermosa Group of Pennsylvanian age, and more specifically, the Paradox Formation. Regional subsidence in Pennsylvanian time created a large sedimentary basin with restricted flow to the open ocean. The result was the formation of a suite of evaporite minerals, such as salt, anhydrite and a large component of potassic (potash) minerals.
