ABSTRACT: | Following the acquisition of Sierra Rutile Limited on 7 December 2016, Iluka Resources Limited is required to report the Ore Reserves and Mineral Resources for this material project. Iluka has also updated the Ore Reserves for all its other material projects, being Jacinth-Ambrosia, Cataby and Tutunup South and its inventory of Mineral Resources as at 31 December 2016. The Mid-west is a northerly sub region which in combination with the South-west subregion comprise the greater Perth Basin. It is presented separately to break down a geographically large region. Iluka Resources Limited (Iluka) and its predecessor companies have been exploring and mining for mineral sands in the Mid-west part of the Perth Basin for some 45 years. The remaining HM resources and Ore Reserves are centred on the Eneabba and Cataby locations. All deposits are located within the Perth Basin which was formed on the downthrown side of a series of normal faults. Contemporaneously, Mesozoic fluvial sediments were deposited within the basin, which were reworked by Tertiary marine transgressions. Subsequent regression following sea level high stand resulted in the progradation of paralic shoreface and aeolian sediments on the marine platform. The Mid-west HM deposits comprise low volume, moderate HM grade sedimentary accumulations with mineralisation presenting as buried and surface accumulations. As such the mining is likely to be an open pit operation employing large scale earth moving equipment such as truck and shovel, scraper or dozer trap. | |
